I can indeed play Region A. I treated myself to a player earlier this year, as I was getting fed up with mainly Criterion Blu Rays I couldn't play…. …just in time for Criterion to launch their UK tranche. Doh! ? I shall purchase in that case. Been impressed with Scream Factory releases, just picked up a copy of Nightbreed, and it's excellent!

Great review, entertaining as usual. Did I mention that I love this film, it is amazing and as you rightly pointed out holds up so well, with its amazing practical effects. I need to see this again. I have the same steelbook edition as you. But you think it's worth getting the Scream Factory version as well?

Got a 4k UHD tv this year, if you think it looks good in 1080p……..

First film I watched on the 4k.

Love this movie! Not much of a Halloween themed movie but I watched American Beauty for the fifth time last night. One of my favourites; hope it ends up in EFC 2 eventually.

WolfGratz says:

It's certainly got better effects than James Arness impersonating a giant carrot in the original. Much as I love Howard Hawks as a director this one has it over the 50s version by a mile cos it also has a better cast, better script and improved concept. One of Carpenter's best and that's saying a whole bunch.

Great film! Been about 2-3 years since I saw it! Need to rewatch it. Watched the Fog last weekend. AMAZING special effects. Probably my favourite after Halloween(haven't seen any of his action films tho)
